Roofers invited to health and safety seminar
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has invited roofing contractors in the north-east to attend a seminar to improve their health and safety standards.

Taking place in Newcastle on February 21st, it is aimed at self-employed roofers and small roofing companies in both the industrial and commercial sectors.

Regulations surrounding working at height, safety standards and the use of ladders and tower scaffolds will be just some of the topics covered in the health and safety training session.

Rob Hirst, HM principal inspector of health and safety, said that the seminar is to inform local contractors of the standards that must be achieved in order to comply with the law.

"Our message to roofers is get it right when working at height. Select the right equipment, ensure people know how to use it safely, and then use it properly," he added.

According to figures from the HSE, the recent Ladder Exchange campaign resulted in over 4,000 'dodgy' ladders being removed from workplaces across the UK.
