Scaffolding firm fined after accident
A contractor has been fined £3,300 plus costs of £5,318 after an accident where three employees fell from a structure they were erecting.

Pedley Scaffolding pleaded guilty to breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Three employees fell six metres when scaffolding collapsed onto a busy road, suffering injuries the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector for the region, Tariq Khan, describes as "serious ".

He says the company failed to provide adequate safety training or supervision for the erection of the structures.

“All employers have a responsibility to ensure that safe working practices are in place, because failure to do so could well cost lives, as well as enforcement action from the HSE," he warns.

He points out the accident could have had much worse consequences.

The HSE recently launched the Shattered Lives campaign to raise awareness of the thousand injuries workers suffer each month from falls, slips and trips.
