COOKIES - The new Law

What are they? Why do we use them? Can I eat them?

At Safety Media we are dedicated to providing our customers with the best experience possible and for that reason our website does use cookies. SHOULD YOU NOT AGREE TO THIS PLEASE LEAVE THE SITE IMMEDIATELY.

In order for websites to have the functionality which we as consumers have to come to expect they rely on the use of cookies. Not the crumbly chocolate kind but a tiny text based piece of information that is embedded onto your browser. This has been common practice for years and most websites, such as Safety Media's website have been quite open about what they are and what we do with them.

The law now states that we have to go one step further and gain your explicit agreement for us to use cookies every time you use the website. The suggested way in which we should do this is provide a pop-up box asking if this is OK. How many of us have pop-ups blocked, hate pop-ups and generally view them through suspicious eyes? My guess would be many of us and therefore we are asking our users if you are not happy with the use of cookies to please leave the website and call us on 0845 345 1703 so we can complete your order or query and continue your journey with Safety Media.

So What are Cookies?

To uphold the quality of the products, information and services that we supply to you via our website we sometimes require a little information in return. Please note this information in no way identifies you individually, we still have no clue who you are - Dave in Slough (now that would be weird wouldn't it!). In order to provide some services, including things that you might not even think about such as Twitter feeds and YouTube clips, it sometimes involves placing small amounts of information on your device, for example, computer or mobile phone. Simply put that is all a cookie is.

Our use of cookies

These pieces of information are used to improve services provided by Safety Media, for example:

  • meaning you can stay logged in after visiting our site should you choose to so you don't have to log in every time you visit.
  • measuring how our site is performing for you our customer, what pages you like, what pages you hate, what pages you never visit, what pages you visit all the time. We do this so that we can provide content that people actually want to see, not what we think they want to see - facts vs fiction if you will.
  • our chat service allowing you to access a live person when you have a query but don't want to pick up the phone or wait for an email to be received and replied to.
  • video clips which help you see more about the systems and products you will receive by choosing to become a Safety Media customer.

If you would like to learn more about how you can manage cookies and how the government websites use cookies please read their article - just be warned the page being linked to does contain cookies!
