Our products Explained

Health & Safety training doesn’t tend to be at the forefront of employers minds when starting up a business. However, it is a legal requirement for all companies with 5 employees or more (this is legislatively going up to 10) to provide training in this area, e.g. what to do in the event of a fire, how to sit correctly at a desk / in front of a display screen, what to do when there is a spillage on the floor, highlight what can happen if you don’t keep a clean and tidy office.

Much of the training is common sense – don’t keep a desk draw open as someone may trip or walk into it causing injury but it is training that needs to be conducted and recorded to prove it has been completed to comply with the legal requirements.

Training therefore can take all forms; it can be a person merely saying it but then how can this be proved if there is any claim for an injury after this type of ‘training’?

Safety Media provide training solutions specialising in the Health & Safety sector due to the compliancy based training required.

The easiest form of training can be for an employer to provide a BOOKLET to their employees and asking them to sign for it. These booklets are produced for the most prevalent generic topics designed for all users – e.g. fire / manual handling / display screen equipment, or for more specific job roles, e.g. Health & Safety for Cleaners. They can be handed out after a ‘classroom’ style training session or handed out as part of the induction programme; either way by keeping a record of receipt of the booklet to the employee, the employer has a record of providing the legislative training.

ASSESSMENT FORMS are available for employers to use as checklists to make sure they have looked into all areas of Health & Safety – e.g. checking for correct fire extinguishers on-site, fire exits clearly marked, no cabling across office walkways etc.

For companies who wish to progress their Health & Safety training and improve the retention of its content, reinforcing the message to reduce the number of accidents and provide evidence of training if accidents do happen, can do so by providing the training via video filmed footage, produced by our own in-house team on a DVD. Watching an actor falling off a ladder due to using the incorrect ladder is easier to remember than reading a booklet on the same topic. Combining both training mediums can further enhance the whole training package.

POSTERS strategically placed around the working environment can re-enforce Health & Safety messages on an everyday basis. A collective look and feel across all the booklets / DVDs / posters, helps the message get across and improves the retention of information. Signing for booklets, attendance records for classroom training with the DVD and pictorial evidence of poster placement, all adds value to auditable and traceable records in case any litigation/claim is sought. All records in these instances are manual and still rely on human input with excellent organisational skills!

In acknowledgement of employers having a multi-cultural workforce and for consistency of training, DVDs / POSTERS are available in multi-lingual formats. Again, this provides evidence of responsible employers and takes Health & Safety legislation seriously.

As companies grow, invariably so do the number of employees. Manual recording of Health & Safety becomes untenable in larger organisations. A move to an e-LEARNING training environment becomes a necessity for compliancy requirements and can be highlighted in the CSR, (Corporate Social Responsibility) rating of the organisation.

The courseware within the e-Learning environment has a different feel as it is of an interactive format. Training is performed on an individual basis at convenient times for the trainee, i.e. no classroom training required. All tests and risk assessments are collated electronically and auditable records are produced. Administration of the system can be easily monitored for incomplete training and re-training of failed trainees, when self-testing is performed at the end of the course. The company’s risk assessment results and any actions required are also recorded.

A move from the ‘traditional’ methods of training, as described, is a big step. Therefore Safety Media have developed a quite of e-Learning packages to suit all requirements, sizes of organisation and cater for adapting business needs.

Many organisations have their own LMS, (Learning Management System), that drives the courseware and therefore wish to ‘tap’ into the largest Health & Safety library of titles by electing to purchase our E-Fit e-Learning package. This model delivers either the total package of courses or else a selection of the same. E-Fit saves the courses to an industry standard called SCORM suitable for use on other LMS’s. Recording of training is delivered in their LMS which enables training assessment and tracking of training records.

A quick solution to deliver an e-Learning solution for companies with up to 100 employees is available for SME sized organisations, namely our Express e-Learning package. With no IT involvement required as it is all web based the whole range of course titles are available, with records being tracked and audited electronically from the system.

Finally, Safety Media remaining the experts in Health & Safety training has delivered their Enterprise e-Learning package. Developed on their own, newly updated, unique LMS specifically built for compliancy training, company risk assessments can be conducted and actions tracked. Along with all of the employee training records, they are fully auditable and robust for any litigation defences.

Safety Media are unique in the Health & Safety market as they are leaders in the field of e-Learning as well as providing a number of corresponding training solutions. All solutions are complimentary to each other and can be mixed and matched. There may be a requirement for large global organisations to have booklets and/or DVDs for example, due to certain departments within the organisation being unable to access IT equipment to perform e-Learning training or there may be a requirement to send a booklet to each employee after they have performed the training to act as an aide memoire.

Safety Media has become the only company providing this one-stop-shop for Health & Safety training solutions.
